Hi, you can spend as long as you like here. I have averaged about 3-4 hours depending on what you are doing. Just walking around. Having a picnic. Or just a quick look and a bite to eat. Its totally up to you. Not sure on the cab costs, however, the cabs are just outside the station ask the question!, From the train station it is about a 45min brisk walk. I have always visited this attraction in the morning. I guess it really depends on the weather! There are no parking restrictions and you can park all day if you wish too.

Definitely a great place to gather for picnics, heaps of room if you go right into the park BBQ area. It is seperate from entrance to the formal gardens. I'm not sure whether alcohol is allowed, but by memory I think we took some beer and wine.
