On the morning of the 2025 Oscar nods, Variety spoke to this year’s contenders about getting recognized by the Academy.

The Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott. “Emilia Pérez” led with 13 nods, followed by “Wicked” and “The Brutalist” with 10 each. In addition to Grande’s nod, Cynthia Erivo – who played Elphaba in the film – earned recognition in the best lead actress category on Thursday.

The adaptation of the Broadway musical landed on the 2025 Oscar nominations list ten times, and that included a nod for Ariana Grande in the Best Supporting Actress category. Fittingly, the singer celebrated the news on Instagram in the most Ariana Grande way possible.
