The head of Turkey’s main opposition party has visited jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu after six nights of massive protests calling for his release.
And following a similar path to Erdoğan, İmamoğlu became the mayor of Istanbul, Türkiye's biggest city. İmamoğlu has long been a leading figure in his party — the Republican People's Party (CHP) — and is now considered to be Erdoğan's most formidable rival.
