Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar play a pair on a first date gone very wrong in Blumhouse’s latest thriller, “ Drop ,” which had its world premiere at Austin’s Paramount Theater on March 9 at the SXSW TV & Film Festival. But the duo and the event couldn’t have gone more right.

Who knew that a movie about getting mysterious airdrops could be this good! The Chris Landon directed film brings us Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widow going on a first date in a long while. Her date Henry (Brandon Sklenar) is a photographer and also happens to be the most patient man of all time as Violet slowly turns their charming date into a game of “how many times is this woman walking away from the table?

With Landon’s visually striking Hitchcock-ian direction, screenwriters Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach provide a fun tech-driven update on the urban legend that spawned 1979’s When a Stranger Calls (and its fun 2006 remake) as the drops come from inside the house.

It also adds a measured yet sincere performance from Meghann Fahy as a woman who finds herself being threatened over airdrop (a function where a nearby stranger can connect to your phone to share images and texts) with messages telling her that she must kill her date or her son dies.

The 'White Lotus' star plays a single mother whose attempt to get back into dating goes awry in Christopher Landon's feature, which also stars Brandon Sklenar.
