Two men died in the violence on Democracy Street, in the Renaissance Park neighborhood off Tryon Road, and a Raleigh police officer remained hospitalized after the shooting. A large police truck with a ram attached to its front end remained in the alley on the street’s 600 block, where the garage door was smashed in.

At the Raleigh vigil, the community plans to “celebrate Officer Gillick’s incredible bravery and dedication, and pray for his continued recovery,” said the planner of the event

A Raleigh police officer was shot in a residential neighborhood south of downtown Tuesday night. Two people, including the suspect in the shooting, are dead.
