Sir Keir Starmer has come under fire at PMQs after Mauritius said the UK had agreed to change payment terms in its deal to hand it control of the Chagos Islands. It comes after Mauritian PM Navin Ramgoolam claimed the UK had now agreed to front-load the payments and change how they are calculated.

The PM has made reportedly concessions to Mauritius which could see the UK paying Mauritius billions more to take over the territory.

Britain's government insisted Thursday that it must hand back the Chagos Islands to Mauritius to secure continued access to satellite communications at a key US-UK military base.

If Britain wants to remain a reliable partner in our security alliance, it must be willing to defend its sovereignty.
