According to NBC News, Cracker Barrel has taken issue with competitor Waffle House after it was announced earlier this week that Waffle House is implementing a 50-cent surcharge for each egg a customer orders in their meals.

A Waffle House worker is expressing concern over the recent egg surcharge the restaurant is passing onto its customers.

More than 13 million hens have been lost or slaughtered since December as a result of the bird flu outbreak, which has reduced egg supplies causing the price of eggs to significantly increase.

But nothing has captured as much media attention as the ultimate insult to all-night breakfast-lovers: an egg surcharge at Waffle House. That does it. The restaurant chain says it has been forced to respond to the spiraling cost of whole eggs.

Cracker Barrel isn’t scrambling to catch up with soaring egg prices and is trying to poach customers with a rewards program after Waffle House announced a 50-cent egg surcharge.

As the cost of eggs continues to rise, consumers are not only being impacting at grocery stores but paying more for breakfast restaurant meals.

At a Waffle House in Atlanta, cooks were busy pouring waffle batter and flipping hash browns around noon on Tuesday when a message flashed on the two cash registers at the counter: “Due to the nationwide rise in the cost of eggs,

“While we hope these price fluctuations will be short-lived we cannot predict how long this shortage will last,” Waffle House said in a statement. “We are continuously monitoring egg prices and will adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions allow.”
