Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's proposed $218 billion state budget would fully fund public education, make marijuana more expensive and would raise taxes on sports betting companies to help fund projects.

In his two-year state budget proposal released Monday, DeWine proposed raising Ohio's sports gaming tax from 20% to 40% to generate money for professional sports facilities and youth sports. DeWine said the tax hike on sports bettors would bring in $130 million to $180 million a year.

With several professional sports teams in Ohio, including the Cleveland Browns, looking for assistance in building or renovating their facilities, Gov. Mike DeWine is proposing to raise the tax on gaming to help provide increased funding.

DeWine is set to unveil his final state budget plan as governor, kicking off months of negotiations on everything from K-12 school funding to money for a new Cleveland Browns stadium.
