The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has frowned at the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it an unconstitutional overreach and a grave violation of Nigeria’s democratic principles.

However, while rejecting the declaration of state of emergency on Rivers, the Peoples Democratic Party on which platform Fubara was elected accused the President of violating the constitution by not consulting with the National Assembly before taking the action.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in oil-producing Rivers State and moved to suspend the state governor, his deputy and all lawmakers, in a speech broadcast on TV.
