A teacher and soccer coach at Downers Gove South High School has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage student.

The teen’s mother discovered text messages about the alleged assault two years later, Illinois prosecutors said.

Christina Formella, 30, is accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old student in a classroom in 2023. She denies the charge, but the boy's mother found evidence of the abuse on his phone, prosecutors say.
