Standard Chartered has appointed former South African bank CEO Maria Ramos as chair to succeed Jose Vinals, who is approaching the end of his nine-year term, the lender said on Tuesday.

Banking group Standard Chartered has chosen banking veteran Maria Ramos as its new chair, who is set to succeed José Viñals who will retire from the board at the end of his nine-year term this May.

Ramos was picked after an 'extensive global search,' the London-headquartered bank said in a statement Tuesday.
