A new wildfire was reported today at 11:50 a.m. in San Diego County. Heavenly Fire has been burning on private land. At this time, there is no data on the containment status of the fire and the cause has yet to be determined.

With many parts of Los Angeles County still smoldering from wildfires, the expected rain this weekend would seem like a welcome relief. But how the rain falls could make the difference between a disaster respite or a disaster repeat.

The fires come as San Diego County mountains and valleys, along with other parts of Southern California, remain under a red flag warning.

Border 2 Fire initially started 2:31 p.m. Jan. 23 in San Diego County. After being active for 20 hours, it has burned 5,389.4 acres, an increase of 1,139 acres since the last update. A fire crew of 692 effectively contained 10% of the fire by Friday noon. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters are responding Wednesday to a brush fire in Rancho Bernardo. The fire started around 8:55 a.m. near Bernardo Center Drive and Camino del Norte, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue, which was responding alongside Poway Fire.

Another blast of Santa Ana winds Thursday prompted San Diego Gas & Electric to cut off electricity to thousands of residents in another of a wave of power outages that have continued off and on for two weeks.
