A spring-level heat wave hit Southern California and even set some records on Monday but forecasters are already switching gears to monitor a chance of rain this weekend. The National Weather Service issued a Record Event Report for three locations around the region that tied or set a new all-time high-temperature record for March 24.

California’s first significant warm spell of 2025 will send the mercury soaring this week. Temperatures are predicted to climb to the 80s in San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and Los Angeles, the 90s in the deserts and near 100 in Death Valley.

Record-breaking heat is possible in parts of Northern California this Tuesday, the same week where a tumble back to winter-like weather is expected. Meteorologist Tamara Berg said Tuesday's forecast high for downtown Sacramento is 87 degrees,

More than 800,000 acres of land across these SoCal counties have been classified under the highest fire hazard severity zone level.

Cal Fire said the maps are proactive, to be used in wildland-urban interface building standards for new construction and natural hazard real estate disclosures at the time of sale.

Cities with first-time fire zone designations include Santa Monica, La Cañada-Flintridge, South Pasadena, Alhambra, Huntington Beach and Laguna Hills.
