The Palmetto State has officially become the go-to destination for Americans packing up and starting fresh, according to a new study from U-Haul that analyzes data from 2024. South Carolina climbed to the top spot on the moving company’s annual ranking, knocking Texas to second place after the Lone Star State’s three-year reign.
U-Haul Growth Index found that one Southeastern U.S. state ranked as the most popular place to move to last year, beating Texas and Florida.
Trailing just behind to round out the top 10 were Arizona, Washington, Indiana, Utah, and Idaho. While Oklahoma and Maine didn't make the top 10 rankings, they represented two out of the three biggest risers year-over-year in U-Haul's rankings, with Oklahoma up by 30 and Maine up by 18 (Indiana was also in that top three, up by 19).
