Atlanta weathered its second winter storm of the season on Tuesday, seeing about an inch of snow across the metro.

An unusual winter storm swept through the Deep South on Tuesday, bringing significant and even once-in-a-lifetime snowfall to unexpected areas.

The winter storm brought up to about 2 inches of snow over parts of north Georgia and areas south of Interstate 20. “There was a sharp cut off in accumulating snow basically right along and near I-85 with not much, as expected, over areas north and west of Atlanta,” Meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan says the winter storm will be historic across the Gulf Coast for several cities that usually don’t see accumulating snow. For us in north Georgia, we’ll be on the northern edge of the system and up to a couple of inches of snow will be possible.

Weather Advisory will be in effect for much of the Atlanta metro area and points south (shown in purple below), where light accumulations of snowfall are possible. A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for Upson County and central Georgia,

A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of metro Atlanta for Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning.
