A day after the federal government extended the deadline for New York to end congestion pricing, Gov. Kathy Hochul touted the success of the tolls.

On Monday, a defiant MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber predicted the deadline would "come and go" without incident. Later that day, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, fired back on X, threatening to pull funding from the MTA if it didn’t improve subway safety.

The governor reported that the congestion pricing program, which took effect Jan. 5 of this year, has improved traffic and business in the area.

The MTA is on pace to bring in $500 million by the end of the year, unless the Trump administration can end it.
