Convicted killer Tony Martin, who shot dead a teenage intruder in his home in 1999, has died at the age of 80, a family friend has said.

A farmer who shot dead a teenage intruder and was found guilty of murder “never recovered” from the impact of the killing, a close friend has said.

On August 20, 1999, Mr Martin fired his shotgun three times from the stairs, killing 16-year-old burglar Fred Barras, and injuring his accomplice Brendon Fearon, then 29, as they broke into his Norfolk farmhouse.
