The US attorney in Washington, DC, arguing the public needs to know the “truth” about the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., filed a motion to speed up by two years the release of FBI files related to the civil rights icon.

The release of as many as 80,000 pages of classified files comes after decades of smaller releases of redacted files.

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to release previously classified documents related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy. The order aims to fulfill a campaign promise and promote transparency after withholding some documents earlier on the advice of his administration.
