U.S. judge on Monday extended a pause on the Trump administration's plan to freeze federal loans, grants and other financial assistance, following a legal challenge from a group of advocacy organizations.

President Donald Trump’s plan to halt federal grants and loans originally targeted a wide range of funding totaling potentially trillions of dollars. While the memo outlining it has since been rescinded, the Republican administration has said some kind of funding freeze is still planned as part of his blitz of executive orders.

The judge cited the potential “catastrophic” impacts of Trump’s plan and said after a hearing that she was inclined to extend her order preventing new restrictions.
