Singer, song writer and actress Marianne Faithfull has died, her spokesperson confirmed to CNN Thursday. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed,” the statement said.

After struggling with drug abuse and personal loss, she reemerged in 1979 with the acclaimed album “Broken English.”

Marianne Faithfull's first hit, "As Tears Go By," was recorded when she was just 17 years old after she met with the manager of the Rolling Stones at a party.
