Ryan Odom has officially been hired as the next head coach of the Virginia men's basketball program, as announced by UVA director of athletics Carla Williams on

Odom, 50, spent a chunk of his childhood in Charlottesville while his father, Dave, served as an assistant coach under Terry Holland from 1982 to 1989. The younger Odom would often get home from school and ride his bicycle to University Hall to watch the Cavaliers practice.

Odom, 50, has adapted while still adhering to an overarching academic mission he appreciates as a former Division III athlete at Hampden-Sydney.
