The head of the ship is the bow. The rear end is the stern. When you stand at the center of the ship and face the bow, you face forward; if you turn around you face aft. Facing forward, the right side of the ship is the starboard side; the left side of the ship is the port side.

The last bomb hit near the ship’s second turret, probably penetrating the armored deck and hitting the ammunition magazines at the ship’s forward section.
