The head of the ship is the bow. The rear end is the stern. When you stand at the center of the ship and face the bow, you face forward; if you turn around you face aft. Facing forward, the right side of the ship is the starboard side; the left side of the ship is the port side.

Sep 23, 2018 · During the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Arizona was attacked by ten Nakajima B5N torpedo bombers, hitting it from amidships to stern and in the bow area. The last bomb hit near the ship’s second turret, probably penetrating the armored deck and hitting the ammunition magazines at the ship’s forward section.

The USS Arizona lies at the bottom of Battleship Row in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the island of Oahu west of Honolulu on the eastern shore of Ford Island. She lies mostly intact from midships to stern, but is extremely damaged from midships to bow.

The Arizona's fuel oil bunkers are spread across three deck levels as well as the double bottom, and arranged from bow to stern. The bunkers are highly compartmentalized, designed that way to prevent catastrophic fuel loss should one part of the battleship sustain a crippling blow.
